Hanging Instructions

PREPARING YOUR WALL
All wall surfaces should be clean, dry and smooth prior to hanging your wall mural. If papering on to a freshly plastered wall we recommend painting with a suitable primer prior to hanging to ensure that the paste adheres sufficiently to the paper.

Any holes, cracks or lumps and bumps should be filled with a good quality filler, smoothed out to create a level surface and sanded once dry.

Brush off the area to be covered with your wall mural using a stiff brush to remove any dust, debris and all loose material.

We do not recommend applying your mural to an already papered wall. Any wallpaper already on the wall should be stripped and any remaining adhesive removed.

TOOLS YOU WILL NEED

  1. Paste-the-wall wallpaper paste
  2. Paste brush or roller to apply the paste
  3. A soft dry cloth to clear any debris or dust from the wall
  4. A lightly dampened cloth or sponge to wipe off excess paste
  5. Sharp knife to cut the paper
  6. Spirit level or plumb line
  7. Pencil to mark your starting point
  8. Tape measure or ruler
  9. Stepladder
  10. Soft bristled brush to smooth out wallpaper

ATTENTION: This is a reverse hang mural. Please rotate strip 2, 4 and 6 to match up the design.

STEP 1
CHECK YOUR MURAL
Ensure you have the correct size and design before opening your mural. If any part of the mural is defective do not proceed to hang.

STEP 2
CUT THE STRIPS FROM THE ROLL
Cut the mural header at the cut-line to separate the header from the start of the first strip. Keep this header as a visual reference. Cut each strip from the roll. This is a reverse hang mural, which means that strips 2, 4 and 6 need to be rotated to match up the design.  This is indicated at the top and bottom of each strip. You can also use the header image to guide you.

STEP 3
MEASURE AND PLAN WHERE TO START
Strip number 1 must be applied to the wall straight. Use a spirit level to help you, as every subsequent strip will be affected by the placement of the first. Working from left to right, use a pencil to gently mark the wall 50cm from the wall’s edge and use a spirit level or plumb line to draw a faint vertical line down the wall.
This will ensure that strip number 1 is hung as straight as possible.

STEP 4
APPLY THE PASTE TO THE WALL
Apply the wallpaper paste to the wall with a paste brush or roller. Make sure that you apply the paste a couple of centimetres wider than the strip you are about to hang.

STEP 5
APPLY THE MURAL TO THE WALL
Use a ladder to hang the first strip. Hang from the top of the
wall (below any coving) to the bottom of the wall. Once you
are happy with the position of the first strip, smooth down the
paper with a soft bristled brush, working outwards from the centre. Smooth down the length of the strip, removing any trapped air pockets as you go. If you need to reposition the strip do so gently and whilst the adhesive is still wet.

STEP 6
PASTE AND REPEAT
Continue to paste the wall, section by section. Hang each strip from top to bottom, lining up the design in each strip. The remaining strips should be hung with a closely butted seam, so that there are no gaps. Do not overlap the strips. Once you have smoothed out the final strip, cut any excess length from the bottom of the mural. Gently wipe excess paste from the surface of the paper using a lightly dampened cloth, before the paste dries.
